!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!
Completely unrelated to lifting except Thor being in the TV Series but I need to get something off my chest and I feel like I've got maybe one thing to add to the discussion of disappointed fans not that anyone ever will read this but who cares. Without further ado here goes nothing...
First off let me say I was heartbroken but at the same time left for words and left with a feeling of confusion. I put many a hour into watching and reading theory vids and thinking about where the story could go and upon watching George's interviews and D & Ds plus having read the books and seen the show I think my initial reaction was disbelief at what I say then realization that there was an essence of George's writing. Bran on the throne, Jon back in the true north with Tormund and Ghost, Arya off on another adventure, Jaime and Cersei back together and of course Jon having to make the decision to kill his love, his own blood, his Queen. That was definetly George. It was the portrayal in my opinion that didn't stick the landing, the laziness of story archs and maybe it was writing or maybe the filming however we shouldn't discredit how truly awe-inspiring the filming was.. when you could see it.. it was good, it was expensive but yet they couldn't keep Tyrion's Wit, express Dany's development or remember to put away their coffee and water before filming.
8 Seasons, over 70 hours not to mention all the years waiting for book readers and a very unclimatic ending has many die hard fans outraged me being one of them well sort of... I read the books in grade 10 or 11 can't remember tbh but they were amazing and before that I started watching the show I believe the 3rd season just came out when I started and so that's 6 years of tension built up for season 8s finale just to be ended in an unexpected way and not the kind of unexpected that the red wedding or Ned's beheading brings but a dull and unfulfilling sensation with a twinkle of rage at the carelessness of D & D.
First off I and I'm sure many people especially those GOT nerds like myself knew as soon as Dany did what she did to their masters as revenge she was destined to use her distasteful sense of justice to do something horrible just as every violent person with a "great cause" or god before her but the way she turned into the Queen of Ashes was utter bullshit don't tell me Dany the woman who freed the slaves, the merciful and caring person she was portrayed to be is gonna snap THAT bad I had expected a few people in the red keep close to Cersei to be Burnt and that to spark a controversy in Westeros but the fact she went full apeshit on all those pour innocent people is absolutly bullshit because there's no character development to that I mean the fact she lost all those close to her doesn't put her in a place to lose total control in my opinion she should've been used to not having anyone since the only person she had was her abussive, egotistic, asshole brother so if anything she should've shown more signs of distrust and missuse of power ealrier on in the stoiry but yet she was a symbol of strength and a respectable character with a slightly and I stress slightly misdirected sense of justice. That's not all they misportrayed...
Jon, Tyrion, Cersei and Jaime, Cleganebowl, Arya, the nightking and white walkers to name the character developments and portrayals that went off track to where I imagine George would've taken things.
Jon needed to fight the damn night king or at least be more useful in that damn episode. His revival was frankly boring as I knew it was gonna happen and expected the prophecy to be fulfilled and for him to have some signs of the fire god having given him life ie eye colour, flaming sword also he should've came back a different person as beric does. I hate how Tyrion convinced him a little too much he knew what he had to do and those few extra lines where Tyrion asks him to do this thing for him makes him seem like a tool not a hero. Jon is meant to be the literal embodiment of a song of ice and fire and there was no real celebration of that and tbh I never knew if he would be king of the 7 kingdoms plus he didn't want it but he certainly deserved praise rather then being shown as a captive to the 7 kingdoms and yeah sure he's free beyond the walls but every damn person in westeros should know that Jon came back to life only to save the entire god damn realm they owe him a thanks. Also he never smiles enough would've been nice to have more of those scenes where you can see him be more real maybe be more in love with Dany... anyways in my opinion they didn't give him enough credit in how they displayed his story arch but yet upon looking back I have nothing wrong with where they took his character arch as I'm sure that's what George wanted.
My opinion for cersei and jaime is prob dif then most in that I didn't mind so much that Jaime went back to be with cersei despite all the development as a better person because to me that seems like a twisted way of showing true love in all it's beauty and disgusting incest. But Cersei shouldv'e been killed like Ned in front of all of king's landing because we all hate her.
Tyrion where did the old you go? No more witty quick comebacks or plans and I can understand and forgive the battle plan mistakes but when he feels like a different character because D & D have ran out of scripts from the books that leaves a bad taste and a empty feeling. So he's going back to being manipulative when he convinced Jon to kill Dany but yet it's not the same kind of witty intentful manipulative as seen before it seemed like legitimate worries for the people of Westeros and the world the same people he just finished saying he doesn't care about last episode....
I LOVED CLEGANEBOWL but it wasn't meant to happen probably. In the books the hound takes up the life of a farming monk where it's believed he learns to let go of his rage and vengence which he spent his whole life feeling filling each night with dreams of revenge and each day with acts of defiance and hate towards everyone around him and the development for him as a person to let that go is a beautiful thought and a wonderful story arch for him to have. Maybe he does go on to seek his brothers death in the books but it appears not so far and cleganebowl is speculated to be fan service. Also if George did Cleganebowl he's do it right and right is where the hound must overcome his fear of fire to kill his "beloved" brother.
Arya is a boss don't get me wrong but can't help but feel she didn't deserve to kill the night king as in that was Jon's purpose and reason why he came back from the dead as the lord of light would want to protect the world from the long night not a mother dragons. It would've been more acceptable if Jon at least fought him first.
The night king and all of episode 3 frankly pissed me off the next day upon reflection at first I was lost like how could that be all? The white walkers can't be gone? Yup they are. So anti climactic definetly didn't feel right or like a George ending. The white walkers purpose should've been explained and George himself didn't want a good vs evil series like lord of the rings and the white walkers aren't described as evil in the books or even ugly but frightenly beautiful and the fact they made the night king at all just to have an evil mysterious character is BULLSHIT. It's been theorized that history would repeat itself and that a pact would need to be made to allow the white walkers to have their land to themselves as it seemed was the problem or maybe to have the old weirwoods be reserved and the old gods be praised as the newer faith of the 7 doesn't respect the space of the children of the forest or the magical weirwoods. I thought for years Jon would have to make a pact with the white walkers to respect their land and that was the reason he came back to life to protect the seven kingdoms and be the song of ice and fire as it's the time fire makes a pact with ice to not clash any longer and to sing songs of peace or some shit but nope they just had them be bad guys vs good guys like every movie ever then kill them off with one stab of a sword L.A.M.E. and it's the way they executed things in my opinion like I understand the series is based off surprises but they're missing some of the fine details and it started to feel less and less like George's creation over time.
Starbucks cup (not actually a starbucks cup), waterbottle, poor war plans (trebuchets in the front really?, dothraki not flanking (where are they at the end btw?), everyone basically making themselves easy targets to add to the army of the dead, half the armies surviving after being shown to survive, back in season 7 with how the wights chained the dragon when it fell in water and they can't go in water and where tf did those chains come from?, only one trench, fast moving wights when previously not shown to be that fast, Sam somehow surviving when much stronger people died easily, doing 6 episodes instead of more or more seasons I mean HBO offered 10 episodes and George adamantly wanted 11 seasons..., and more I have no doubts about that)
It's nice to vent and let all this rage out but it should be known that Game of thrones still holds a special place in my heart and is still my favourite series and I'm still thankful of what they did and how much they spent and how much work they out into the final season. I thank D&D for all the fun this journey has brought me and many many more people.
Anyways enough ranting, can't stay mad forever...
